Rain... man

Out of curiosity; am I gonna have to mess around with the shot in post because most of the days this time of year are bright, sunny and cloudless. If I turn down the contrast maybe?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">On "Twister" they used extremely bright lights on their sets and things to make the sky and everything else look darker. But if you're not sure what you're doing with lights and stuff like that it's best to avoid them in case you give your actors a permanent sun tan.

Shooting at dusk does rather limit the amount of filming you can do each day.

I am not in the UK by any stretch. I live in what my friends playfully say is the "Freakin' Desert." Yeah actually twilight isn't a bad idea most of my friends (I can't afford or even know where to get real actors) don't have that much time (Doesn't that suck when they arbitrarily decide to get haircuts).

Incidently would using the sky as a huge bluescreen(It is blue afterall) work then i'd only have to muck about with the brightness and stuff.

It sounds like you're making things very difficult for yourself. Is rain integral to your storyline? Why not use what you have (in terms of location) and set it in the desert - that could look fantastic!

You could create a whole movie about rain ? without spraying a drop!

I was hoping to do most of the rain in post as suggested, only using actual water for the close ups and then using a zoom lens and my tripod to keep it steady so I'm not risking electrocution and more impotantly; my camera.

But the whole desert thing... The last and first sequences of my movie take place in the desert. I pray for a clear day so that everything looks like a desert should, blue sky, browns, reds and the dark greens of the occasional tamarisk. The last scene is shot in this truly pristene canyon just outside of town. I have high hopes.

In my experience (and I know that's not great compared to some of the stars on this board!)

simple = best

Also I'm horrified that two posts on this board refer to the camera as the most valuable part of the team and only one (mine) talks about the crew's safety.

I think you may also find:

telephtoto lens = wobbley + grainy shot

but if you must - make sure you weight the tripod with the heaviest things you can find!

You didn't like my lemon idea? OK, but as a person that gets rained-on regularly, I would prefer to be where you are!
